ingredients:
- 1/2 lb macaroni
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 cups milk
- pepper, salt, and nutmeg to taste
- ~ .6 lb gruyere cheese
- a handful of grated swiss cheese (optional)
- plain breadcrumbs
instructions:
- start the macaroni boiling.
- in small pot, melt the butter and add cornstarch.
- stirring until absorbed.
- add milk.
- stir constantly until it begins to boil, and thickens.
- add pepper, salt, and nutmeg to taste.
- add sauce to drained macaroni, and pour into an 8"x8" glass pan.
- sprinkle a thin layer breadcrumbs on top.
- sprinkle a thin layer of the cheese.
- now another thin layer of breadcrumbs.
- and the rest of the cheese.
- cook at 350 for about 15-20 minutes.
- then broil until brown and crusty on top.
